Kuwait Olympic Committee President: Kuwait's Hosting of OCA General Assembly Reflects Its Prominent Continental Standing..

 Sheikh Fahad Nasser Al-Sabah, President of the Kuwait Olympic Committee, stated that Kuwait's hosting of the 45th General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), launching next Sunday under the slogan "Asia One", highlights Kuwait's prestigious position in Asian Olympic sports, particularly as the country has hosted the OCA headquarters since its establishment in 1982.

In a press statement on Thursday, Sheikh Fahad confirmed that the Kuwait Olympic Committee, in coordination with the OCA, has completed all preparations to host this major sporting event, which will bring together the Asian Olympic sports community. The opening ceremony will feature a cultural celebration at the Jaber Al-Ahmad Cultural Center, symbolizing the unity of Asian athletes.

  • The official OCA General Assembly meeting will be held next Monday at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, attended by heads of 45 Asian National Olympic Committees.

  • Notable attendees include:

    • Dr. Thomas Bach, current President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC)

    • Kirsty Coventry, IOC President-elect (Zimbabwe)

    • Senior IOC officials

  • Over 400 sports figures from Asia and worldwide have been invited to this pivotal gathering, aimed at advancing Olympic sports in the continent.

Gulf Olympic Committees Meeting

Sheikh Fahad also announced that the Kuwait Olympic Committee will host the 37th Meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Olympic Committees' Presidents next Sunday at the Four Seasons Hotel. He emphasized the importance of this gathering in strengthening fraternal ties among GCC athletes and fostering cooperation in Olympic sports for future generations.

Government Support & OCA Collaboration

Sheikh Fahad expressed gratitude to Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi, Kuwait’s Minister of Information, Culture, and Youth Affairs, for his full support in providing all necessary resources to ensure the success of these Asian and Gulf meetings.

He also praised the close coordination between the Kuwait Olympic Committee and the OCA, which will contribute to achieving the assembly’s goals in developing Asian Olympic sports.
