Turkey plans to supply Syria with natural gas for electricity generation..

Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar announced on Thursday that Turkey plans to export 6 million cubic meters of natural gas per day to Syria—equivalent to 2 billion cubic meters annually—primarily for electricity generation within Syria.

In an interview with CNN Türk, Bayraktar stated that infrastructure work for the natural gas pipeline has already begun on the Syrian side. The gas will flow from Turkey’s Kilis province to Aleppo, Syria, where it will fuel a power plant.

"This gas will be used at the Aleppo power station, and we aim to start the flow within three months," Bayraktar said. "We’ve made rapid progress in Syria because the natural gas pipeline has already reached the Syrian border in Kilis. This way, we will supply fuel to those power plants."

Electricity Supply Also Underway

Bayraktar noted that efforts are also underway to provide Syria with electricity alongside natural gas. Currently, 200 megawatts of electricity are being supplied from Turkey to northern Aleppo, with Turkey prioritizing efforts to help restore normalcy in Syria.

He pointed out that Syria’s infrastructure has suffered severe damage due to the 13-year-long war, making energy cooperation crucial for reconstruction.
