2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifiers Draw Held in Doha
The draw for the qualifiers of the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup (Qatar) took place today, Tuesday, in the Qatari capital, Doha.
A total of 80 national teams from across the world will compete in the qualifiers for 31 available spots in the final tournament.
The 16 teams from Asia and Oceania were divided into four groups:
Group 1: Australia, New Zealand, Philippines, Guam
Group 2: Japan, China, South Korea, Chinese Taipei
Group 3: Iran, Jordan, Syria, Iraq
Group 4: Qatar, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, India
The top three teams from each group will advance to the second round, where they will be split into two groups. The top three teams from each of these groups will qualify for the World Cup, along with the best fourth-placed team based on points.
The African teams were divided into four groups:
Group 1: Cameroon, South Sudan, Libya, Cape Verde
Group 2: Senegal, DR Congo, Madagascar, Ivory Coast
Group 3: Nigeria, Rwanda, Guinea, Tunisia
Group 4: Mali, Angola, Uganda, Egypt
The top three teams from each group will progress to the second round, where they will be split into two groups. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the World Cup, along with the best third-placed team based on points.
The teams from the Americas were divided into four groups:
Group 1: USA, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, +1 team from preliminary round
Group 2: Puerto Rico, Canada, Bahamas, +1 team from preliminary round
Group 3: Brazil, Venezuela, Colombia, +1 team from preliminary round
Group 4: Argentina, Uruguay, Panama, +1 team from preliminary round

Group 1: Georgia, Spain, +2 teams from preliminary round
Group 2: Greece, Montenegro, Portugal, +1 team from preliminary round
Group 3: Serbia, Turkey, Bosnia and Herzegovina, +1 team from preliminary round
Group 4: Great Britain, Italy, Iceland, Lithuania
Group 5: Germany, Cyprus, +1 team from preliminary round
Group 6: Latvia, Poland, +2 teams from preliminary round
Group 7: France, Belgium, Finland, +1 team from preliminary round
Group 8: Slovenia, Czech Republic, Sweden, Estonia
The top three teams from each group will progress to the second round, where they will be split into four groups. The top three teams from each of these groups will qualify for the World Cup.
The qualifiers will run from November 2025 to March 2027, with matches played in a home-and-away format (except in Africa, which will use a tournament-style group system).
A total of 32 teams from Europe, 16 from Africa, 16 from Asia/Oceania, and 16 from the Americas will compete in the qualifiers.
The 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup will be held from August 27 to September 12, 2027, marking the first time the tournament is hosted in the Middle East.
The event will feature 32 teams, with matches played across four main arenas, and the final taking place at Lusail Arena.
The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) announced Qatar as the host of the 2027 World Cup during its meeting on April 28, 2023, in the Philippine capital, Manila.
