Arab Summit Kicks Off in Baghdad with Palestinian Issue Topping the Agenda..

The summit session will commence with an opening address by the Kingdom of Bahrain in its capacity as chair of the previous 33rd regular session, followed by a speech from Iraq as it assumes the presidency of the current 34th session. The Secretary-General of the Arab League will then deliver remarks, after which Arab leaders and guest representatives will present their statements.

Following this, a closed working session will be held to adopt the draft agenda and approve draft resolutions, with the Palestinian issue topping the summit's agenda. Leaders will discuss political developments, the Arab-Israeli conflict, the activation of the Arab Peace Initiative, and Israeli violations in occupied Jerusalem, as well as issues related to settlements, the separation wall, the uprising, prisoners, refugees, and UNRWA.

Two reports will be presented to the leaders:

  1. A report from the presidency of the previous 33rd summit on the activities of the Follow-up Committee for Implementing Decisions and Commitments.

  2. A report by the Secretary-General on joint Arab action.

The summit will also address several Arab issues, including developments in Lebanon, Syria, Sudan, Libya, Yemen, Somalia, the Comoros, the Ethiopian dam dispute, the Djibouti-Eritrea border conflict, and the occupied UAE islands (Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa) claimed by Iran.

Additionally, leaders will review several initiatives proposed by Iraq, including:

  • Establishing an Arab Coordination Center for Drug Control in Baghdad.

  • Creating an Arab Center for Combating Transnational Organized Crime.

  • Forming a Joint Arab Security Coordination Chamber.

  • Launching the Arab Center for Counter-Terrorism in Baghdad.

  • Establishing an Arab Fund to support recovery and reconstruction efforts in crisis-affected areas.

At the conclusion of the session, Arab leaders will determine the date and location of the next 35th Arab Summit.
