The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the European Union and Cooperation summoned the Israeli Chargé d'Affaires in Madrid to condemn the targeting of a diplomatic delegation during its tour of the Jenin refugee camp earlier today, Wednesday.Spanish Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares said on his official Twitter account, "In response to the unacceptable shooting of a delegation of Spanish, European, and other diplomats, we have summoned the chargé d'affaires of the Israeli embassy in Madrid."Albares called for "clarity and accountability" and expressed support for the diplomats who came under fire. Madrid has been without an Israeli ambassador for a year, after Benjamin Netanyahu's government recalled its ambassador, Rodica Radian, in protest against the Spanish government's decision to recognize an independent Palestinian state in May of last year.Earlier today, the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the shooting of a diplomatic delegation accredited to the State of Palestine at the entrance to the Jenin refugee camp in the northern West Bank, calling for an immediate and transparent investigation into the incident, which it described as "extremely serious."
