The billionaire Elon Musk announces the end of his work with the American administration..

American billionaire Elon Musk announced his exit from the U.S. administration and the end of his role as head of the Government Efficiency Agency (GEA), an office established by President Donald Trump at the start of his second term to streamline government spending and reduce the federal workforce.

In a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday evening, Musk did not clarify whether his departure was due to resignation, termination, or a mutual agreement. However, the White House had previously stated that Musk's role was temporary.

Musk said, "As my service as a special government employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President Donald Trump for the opportunity to help reduce wasteful spending."

The American billionaire predicted that "the mission of the Government Efficiency Agency will grow stronger over time and become a way of life across the entire government."

Trump established the GEA on Inauguration Day, January 20, with the goal of "bringing accountability and transparency to federal spending and ensuring taxpayer dollars are spent wisely and effectively."

The White House emphasized that the Trump administration is conducting extensive investigations into programs from his predecessor Joe Biden’s era, which "wasted billions of taxpayer dollars on ineffective, politically motivated projects—including canceling unnecessary government contracts and grants that do not serve the national interest."

The GEA's work has sparked significant controversy across the country, particularly over its access to employees' personal data and its role in mass layoffs of federal workers. Musk became the most controversial government employee in the U.S. due to these actions.

In late February, Trump signed an executive order reinforcing government efforts to combat public waste and cut state expenditures under the supervision of the GEA, as his administration continues its push in this area.
