Mauritania and Algeria agree on a protocol granting Algeria fishing licenses in Mauritanian waters..

Algerian Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Fisheries, Youcef Cherfa, met with his Mauritanian counterpart, Fadel Ould Sidiatti, on Thursday to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in maritime fisheries. The talks also focused on implementing a bilateral protocol granting Algeria fishing licenses in Mauritania’s territorial waters.

In a statement, Algeria’s Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Fisheries said, *"Minister Cherfa, alongside his Mauritanian counterpart Fadel Ould Sidiatti, attended the signing ceremony of the minutes of the Algerian-Mauritanian Joint Technical Committee meeting to activate the fisheries protocol agreed upon by the two countries in 2022."*

The statement clarified that "the signed protocol grants Algeria fishing licenses in Mauritania’s territorial waters, a step that strengthens bilateral cooperation in maritime fisheries."

It also noted that "members of the Joint Technical Committee explored ways to expand cooperation into related fields, including aquaculture, shipbuilding and repair, scientific research, and boosting trade exchanges—reflecting the strong ties between Algeria and Mauritania."
