Kuwaiti Ship (Al Dasma) Rescues 40 Refugees in Mediterranean on Disabled Boat Without Food or Water..

Kuwait has added another remarkable achievement to its distinguished humanitarian record after the Kuwait Oil Tanker Company's product carrier Al Dasma responded to the call of duty, rescuing 40 refugees stranded in the Mediterranean Sea when their boat broke down, leaving them without food or water.

In a statement to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Thursday, the company said this initiative reflects its steadfast commitment to international principles of safeguarding lives at sea, reinforcing Kuwait's humanitarian role on the global stage.

The company explained that on Tuesday evening, during a voyage to Egypt, Al Dasma spotted the distressed boat carrying 40 refugees. In coordination with the Egyptian Search and Rescue Authority and the company's office, the tanker altered its course to rescue them, providing water, food, and temporary shelter on board.

Al Dasma then resumed its journey to Port Said, where the refugees were safely disembarked on Thursday in coordination with Egyptian authorities after completing all necessary procedures in compliance with relevant international laws and humanitarian conventions.

This humanitarian operation is not the company's first of its kind. In a similar incident on June 15, 2014, the crude oil supertanker Al Salmi rescued a group of refugees off the Italian coast—an operation that garnered widespread international praise and recognition from the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

The company emphasized that safety and marine environmental protection are fundamental priorities in its strategy, stressing that such humanitarian efforts align with its commitment to integrating ethical and humanitarian values into its business operations, further solidifying its leadership in the maritime transport sector.

The Al Dasma rescue operation serves as tangible proof of the Kuwait Oil Tanker Company's ability to balance operational efficiency with humanitarian responsibility, as well as a genuine reflection of Kuwait's unwavering commitment to placing human welfare at the heart of its priorities—whether through its maritime fleet or developmental initiatives.

The company affirmed that "saving lives at sea is not merely a legal obligation but a moral duty that embodies the authentic humanitarian values upheld by the State of Kuwait."
