HE Dr. Amthal Al-Huwaila, Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood Affairs, and Chairperson of the Higher National Committee for Implementing the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), affirmed the Committee's commitment to coordinating national efforts to accelerate implementation of international agreements and enhance the rights of persons with disabilities across all sectors.
In statements to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on Wednesday, Al-Huwaila stated that the Committee's inaugural meeting - chaired by her yesterday with participation from 12 government entities - marks the official launch of its operations. The Committee was established per Ministerial Resolution No. (126/2025) following a Council of Ministers decision, with the mandate to develop a comprehensive national roadmap.
She emphasized that the Committee will serve as the central driver for coordinating national efforts and implementing Kuwait's international obligations, particularly the CRPD and the Berlin-Oman Declaration.
The Minister explained that the meeting discussed operational mechanisms for the coming phase, during which the Committee will:
Monitor CRPD implementation
Develop action plans
Conduct performance evaluations
Propose enhancements to national policies and programs
