The Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a strong condemnation on Sunday of the terrorist attack targeting Mar Elias Church in the Al-Dwelaa neighborhood of Damascus, Syria, which resulted in civilian casualties.

In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the ministry expressed Belgium's solidarity with the civilians affected by this assault and extended condolences to the victims' families and the Syrian people. It emphasized the imperative to respect and protect places of worship, calling for an immediate end to all forms of violence against innocent civilians.

Earlier in the day, Syrian authorities reported that 13 civilians were killed and 53 others wounded in what they described as a "terrorist attack" on Mar Elias Church.
