Egypt welcomed US President Donald Trump's announcement of a ceasefire agreement between Iran and the Israeli occupation.

In a statement, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry praised this significant development in de-escalating the dangerous tensions that have gripped the region in recent days. This breakthrough could mark a pivotal turning point toward ending military confrontations between the two sides and restoring regional stability.

The ministry emphasized that this step presents a real opportunity to halt the cycle of escalation and mutual attacks, creating a conducive environment for renewed political and diplomatic efforts. It called on both parties to fully commit to the ceasefire, exercise maximum restraint during this critical phase, and take measures that contribute to calming tensions and reducing escalation—ensuring the security and stability of the region and the safety of its people.

Egypt commended this crucial step toward de-escalation, noting that it has consistently advocated for a ceasefire and reduced tensions through intensive direct communications with all relevant regional and international parties, including the conflict’s stakeholders, over the past weeks.

The statement reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to continuing its diplomatic efforts in coordination with regional and international partners to solidify the ceasefire, support de-escalation efforts, and work toward a comprehensive and sustainable resolution to the crises threatening the region’s stability.

The ceasefire between Iran and Israel came into effect on Tuesday morning, following President Trump’s announcement on Monday evening of a "complete and comprehensive" agreement to halt hostilities. This came after a series of mutual airstrikes that had been ongoing since the 13th of this month.
