The European Union welcomes the announcement of a ceasefire between Iran and the occupying power..

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement of a ceasefire between Iran and Israel on Tuesday, describing the move as "an important step toward restoring stability in a region experiencing escalating tensions."

In a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), von der Leyen emphasized that "achieving stability must be a collective priority for the international community." She called on Iran to engage in "credible" diplomatic processes, stressing that "the negotiating table remains the only realistic way forward."

The ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel came into effect on Tuesday morning, following President Trump's announcement on Monday evening of a "complete and comprehensive" agreement to halt hostilities. This development comes after two weeks of mutual shelling between the parties that began on the 13th of this month.
