Germany today called on Iran to refrain from suspending cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) following the ceasefire with Israeli forces.
At a press conference, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadevohl stated that the Iranian parliament's decision to halt work with the IAEA sends an "extremely negative message" to the international community.
Wadevohl, whose country was one of the Western signatories to the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran alongside the United States, France, and Britain, emphasized the importance of Tehran not severing ties with the UN nuclear watchdog responsible for inspecting Iranian nuclear facilities.
The development comes after Iran's Islamic Consultative Assembly (Parliament) yesterday approved a draft bill requiring the government to suspend cooperation with the IAEA. This legislative move follows recent hostilities that saw U.S. military strikes targeting three nuclear facilities in Iran.
