Gabonese President Brice Oligui Nguema announced on Saturday the establishment of a new political party named the "Democratic Union of Builders" (Union Démocratique des Bâtisseurs - UDB) during its founding general assembly at the Palais des Sports in the capital, Libreville.
Local media reported broad public participation in the event, along with prominent political figures formerly affiliated with the Gabonese Democratic Party (PDG) and former opposition members who have now declared support for the president.
The new party has adopted the motto "Inclusivity - Development - Loyalty" and aims to create "a unifying political space that brings together all segments of society while focusing on delivering realistic development projects and upholding commitments to the Gabonese people," according to its founder.
Ahead of the upcoming legislative and local elections, the party plans to field candidates across all constituencies, positioning itself as a major political force in the country and securing a comfortable parliamentary majority.
President Nguema also appointed Maixent Moussavou as the party’s Secretary-General, tasking him with overseeing the implementation of its vision. He urged officials to accelerate membership drives in preparation for the forthcoming electoral contests.
