The United Nations stresses the need for the safe delivery of humanitarian aid to Sudan..

The United Nations on Wednesday renewed its call for safe and unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid to Sudan, urging the international community to intensify support for the country's most vulnerable populations.

In a press statement, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) expressed particular concern about the situation in North Darfur State, where ongoing fighting continues to displace families from their homes.

OCHA further warned of deteriorating humanitarian conditions in the Kordofan region, where persistent violence is forcing increasing numbers of people to flee - "often to areas with little to no assistance available."

Despite significant challenges, UN humanitarian partners are working tirelessly to maintain essential services. In North Darfur alone, they are supporting over 1.7 million people with basic healthcare through remaining functional health facilities and mobile clinics.

In a positive development, OCHA reported that a humanitarian convoy led by UN Deputy Humanitarian Coordinator Antoine Gerard successfully crossed from Chad into Darfur last Sunday, delivering 180 tons of life-saving relief supplies.

However, the UN agency raised new concerns after heavy rains caused sudden flooding in North Delta area of Kassala State, eastern Sudan, potentially further complicating humanitarian access to affected populations.

"The combination of conflict, displacement and now flooding creates a perfect storm of suffering," the OCHA statement noted, emphasizing the urgent need for increased international support and unimpeded access to all affected areas.
