The United Nations condemned the killing of civilians in Gaza by Israeli occupation forces, stressing that all parties are obligated under international humanitarian law to prevent such an excessive number of civilian casualties and injuries.
UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric stated during a press briefing on Thursday evening that reports had been received of an airstrike targeting people waiting to receive food aid in Deir al-Balah, resulting in dozens of casualties, most of whom were women and children.
Dujarric noted that the Israeli occupation army continues its operations across the Gaza Strip, including airstrikes and ground incursions, and called for all possible precautions to avoid or minimize harm to civilians, stressing that indiscriminate attacks are "strictly prohibited."
The UN spokesperson also mentioned that a UN team had managed to deliver approximately 75,000 liters of fuel into Gaza for the first time in 130 days. However, he emphasized that the UN and its humanitarian partners need hundreds of thousands of liters of fuel daily to sustain life-saving operations.
Dujarric warned that fuel supplies are running out and that essential services will collapse unless larger quantities are allowed into Gaza immediately. He highlighted that clean drinking water supplies for about 44,000 children would be cut off, further exacerbating the risk of severe water shortages.
