The Iraqi Ministry of Transportation denied late Sunday media reports claiming the closure of Iraqi airspace to air traffic, including flights to and from Turkey.
In a statement carried by the Iraqi News Agency, the ministry confirmed that "Iraqi airspace remains open to air navigation and all Iraqi airports are operational for all airlines."
The statement, quoting ministry spokesman Mitham Al-Safi, continued: "The Ministry of Transportation denies the closure of Iraqi airspace to air traffic, including flights between Iraq and Turkey."
He added: "There is normal flight traffic through Iraqi airspace, and both Iraqi airports and airspace remain open to all airlines."
This comes after media reports earlier claimed that Turkish Airlines had suspended its flights to Iraq, Jordan, Iran, and Syria until the end of July without providing reasons.
