China on Monday urged the United States to strengthen joint efforts in advancing economic and trade relations between the two countries, aiming to restore the global trading system to a "path of fairness and openness" and bolster international economic recovery and growth.
The statement was made by Wang Lingjun, Deputy Director of China’s General Administration of Customs, during a press conference held by the State Council Information Office to review China’s trade achievements in the first half of 2025.
Commitment to High-Level Trade Talks
China Central Television (CCTV) reported that Wang emphasized the accelerated efforts by Chinese and U.S. working teams to implement the outcomes of the high-level trade talks held in London on July 9. He stressed that "dialogue and cooperation remain the right path forward."
Strong Trade Performance in H1 2025
Wang announced that China’s total goods import and export value reached 21.79 trillion yuan (approx. $3.04 trillion) in the first half of 2025, marking a 2.9% year-on-year increase.
He noted a notable rebound in trade activity since June, with exports hitting a historic high of over 13 trillion yuan ($1.81 trillion)—a 7.2% surge—while imports stood at 8.79 trillion yuan ($1.22 trillion), reflecting a 2.7% decline.
This growth underscores China’s resilient trade performance amid global economic fluctuations, as Beijing continues advocating for multilateral cooperation and stable international trade frameworks.
