The US Secretary of State says that a permanent negotiated settlement with Russia remains a priority for President Trump..

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stressed on Monday his country's commitment to reaching a peaceful settlement between Russia and Ukraine that would end the years-long devastating war between them.

State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce said in a statement that this came during phone calls made by Secretary Rubio with his counterparts in France, Germany, and the United Kingdom to discuss developments in the Russia-Ukraine war.

Bruce added that during his communications, Secretary Rubio reaffirmed that ending the Russia-Ukraine war through a permanent negotiated settlement "remains a priority for President Trump." This followed the U.S. President’s recent announcement that Washington would resume providing defensive weapons to Kyiv through NATO.

She noted that the U.S. Secretary of State also discussed with his counterparts "ways to enhance stability in the Middle East and ensure Iran cannot develop or acquire a nuclear weapon."

Earlier on Monday, during his meeting with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte at the White House, Trump threatened to impose tariffs on Russia of nearly 100% if an agreement to end its military conflict with Ukraine is not reached within 50 days.
