The Libyan government issued a firm condemnation on Thursday of the Israeli occupation parliament's (Knesset) approval to impose Israeli sovereignty over the occupied West Bank.
In an official statement, the Foreign Ministry of Libya's Government of National Unity:
Reaffirmed full support for Palestinian rights to establish an independent state within 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital
Denounced the decision as a "flagrant violation of international law," stressing Israel has no sovereignty over Palestinian territories
Called on the UN Security Council to fulfill its legal and moral obligations regarding Israeli violations
Expressed complete solidarity with the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights
Urged international action to halt unilateral measures undermining peace prospects
Reiterated Libya's commitment to:
Arab and Islamic positions supporting Palestine
The two-state solution based on:
International legitimacy resolutions
The Arab Peace Initiative
Establishment of a Palestinian state on June 4, 1967 lines with Jerusalem as capital
Background:
The condemnation follows Wednesday evening's Knesset approval of a right-wing proposal advocating Israeli sovereignty over the West Bank and Jordan Valley - seen as a step toward formal annexation of occupied territories.
