After laying off more than 9,000 employees | Microsoft is turning to artificial intelligence..
After Microsoft laid off more than 9,000 employees this year, the company's CEO, Satya Nadella, revealed Microsoft's future plans in a new post on the company's official blog.
In this post, Nadella referred to what he described as the "apparent paradox of our era," where Microsoft has been forced to lay off a large portion of its workforce despite achieving growth and success "by all objective measures."Microsoft is thriving our performance in the market, our strategic location, and our growth are all going upwards. We are investing in capital expenditure (CAPEX) more than ever before. Our total number of employees has not changed much, and some of the competencies and expertise in our company and in the industry are valued and rewarded at unprecedented levels. However, we laid off at the same time."*
In his post, Nadella outlined the company's core vision of advancing AI across all fronts, including research, analysis, and programming. The way his ideas were formulated suggests that in the future, Microsoft may be interested in replacing more of its employees with AI agents, if the technology reaches an advanced level that allows it to do so efficiently."Just imagine if all of Earth's 8 billion people could call in a researcher, analyst or software agent in an instant, not just to get information, but to use their expertise to accomplish tasks that benefit them," Satya Nadella wrote in the "Why" section of his post. "She hopes that when organizations can harness AI, they can unlock whole new levels of agility and innovation by transforming the way decisions are made, streamlining processes, and enabling every team to achieve.
