The Palestinian Foreign Ministry welcomes Canada's announcement of its intention to recognize the State of Palestine..

The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomed on Thursday Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s announcement of Canada’s intention to formally recognize the State of Palestine during the upcoming session of the United Nations General Assembly next September.

In a press statement, the ministry described the move as a "bold and principled decision" and "a significant step toward achieving justice and peace, as well as a long-awaited realization of the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination."

The ministry viewed the decision as a reaffirmation of the international consensus on the two-state solution and strong support for the rules-based international order at a time when the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people are under threat.

It renewed its call for the recognition of the State of Palestine, stressing that implementing the two-state solution requires political will. The ministry urged the international community to continue taking decisive action to uphold justice, international legitimacy, and equal rights for all peoples.

The statement emphasized that recognizing Palestine "is not only a legal obligation but an essential foundation for a future based on freedom, sovereignty, and lasting peace in the region."

Canadian PM’s Phone Call with President Abbas

Canada to Send Urgent Aid to Gaza

Meanwhile, the Palestinian News Agency (WAFA) reported that the Canadian prime minister, acknowledging the dire humanitarian situation, stated that Canada is currently sending urgent air and land aid to Gaza in coordination with Jordan.

Canada Follows France and Britain

Prime Minister Mark Carney announced on Wednesday that Canada will recognize a Palestinian state during the upcoming UN General Assembly session. This follows similar announcements from France, which said it would recognize Palestine in September, and Britain, which indicated it would do the same unless the situation in Gaza changes.

Amid Israel’s War and Humanitarian Catastrophe

The Canadian announcement comes as over two million Palestinians endure catastrophic conditions due to Israel’s ongoing war on Gaza, which has included blockading crossings, starving civilians, and obstructing aid deliveries. This has prompted several countries to conduct airdrops of humanitarian assistance in recent days.
