On Friday, a group of Democratic leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives called on President Donald Trump to fulfill his promise to end the war in the Gaza Strip and pressure the Israeli occupation, as the United States withdraws from ceasefire negotiations recently hosted by Doha.

In a joint letter addressed to Trump, prominent Democratic House members—including the ranking Democrat on the Foreign Affairs Committee—wrote:

"As leading Democratic members of key House committees, we write to you today with a profound sense of urgency and moral responsibility. The ongoing war in Gaza has reached a point of deep humanitarian crisis, geopolitical instability, and grave risks for all parties involved. We urge you to leverage the full weight of U.S. diplomacy to secure an immediate, just, and lasting end to the conflict."

The Democratic lawmakers expressed their belief that "the core military objectives of this war were achieved long ago, and the continuation of fighting not only risks escalating regional tensions and worsening the humanitarian catastrophe but also undermines the long-term strategic security of both Israelis and Palestinians."

They argued that "now is the time for you to urgently bring all relevant parties—Israel, Palestinian leaders, regional stakeholders, along with the U.S. and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff—back to the negotiating table without delay."

They emphasized the "critical need to dramatically scale up humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza to save lives threatened by starvation, disease, and suffering." The letter urged the administration to "ensure unrestricted humanitarian access and work closely with reputable, experienced relief organizations that understand the region and can operate effectively through proven mechanisms to deliver food and medical aid to civilians without delay or diversion."

The letter stressed that "for countless innocent lives, there is no time left—the U.S. must act swiftly and decisively to save them." Furthermore, it called on Trump to "make a permanent ceasefire a central goal of your diplomatic efforts."

It also rejected "any plans for the forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza."

The letter reminded Trump of his campaign pledge to "end the war in Gaza and restore stability to the Middle East," stating: "This is your opportunity to fulfill that promise. The path to lasting peace, regional stability, and U.S. interests in the Middle East lies not in prolonged war but in dialogue, diplomacy, and bold American leadership grounded in our enduring democratic and humanitarian values."

The Democratic leaders added that "the long-term protection of a Jewish and democratic Israel, alongside a just and secure future for the Palestinian people, are inextricably linked to the viability of a two-state solution. There is no better or more feasible alternative."

Last Friday, six U.S. Congress members had urged the Trump administration to pressure Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to end the war in Gaza.
