Lebanese Cabinet Tasks Army with Developing Plan to Regulate Weapons Before Year-End..

The Lebanese Council of Ministers on Tuesday mandated the Army to develop an actionable plan to consolidate all weapons under state authority by year-end, requiring its submission to the Cabinet for discussion and approval before the end of this month.

The presidential statement issued after the Cabinet session - chaired by President Michel Aoun at Baabda Palace - revealed that ministers will continue reviewing the proposal submitted by U.S. envoy Tom Brake concerning the exclusive state monopoly on armed force during Thursday's session.

President Aoun emphasized during the meeting the imperative to "end delays in the Beirut Port blast investigation five years after the tragic incident" and expedite judicial proceedings. He urged officials to "stop intimidating citizens and escalating tensions over trivial matters," calling instead to "clear the path for investors and ensure a peaceful summer season rather than spreading fear through baseless warnings of imminent strikes or war."

The statement noted Aoun's approval of recent parliamentary legislation, including banking sector restructuring laws and judicial independence reforms.
