Coinciding with the launch of the iPhone 17 phones in September 2025, Apple will offer an ultra-slim version under an expected name called iPhone 17 Air, this name is not yet official, but many leaks have confirmed that Apple is working on developing an ultra-thin iPhone.
The iPhone 17 Air is expected to be around 5.5 mm thick, making it the thinnest iPhone released by the company to date, and this measurement does not include the rear camera protrusion, which may be thicker to accommodate the rear camera lenses.
Apple will launch this version along with the rest of the releases in the upcoming series, including: iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the Plus version is not expected to be released this year, as the iPhone 17 Air will replace it in the series.
The phone will come with a 6.6-inch screen, which will be between the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro Max, and will feature a single-lens rear camera, and a horizontal strip that surrounds the rear camera lens, which is a new design style from Apple, which is also expected to be adopted in upcoming Pro models.
Here are more details about the expected specifications of Apple's upcoming iPhone 17 Air:
Design
Apple was inspired by the idea of ultra-slim iPad Pro released in 2024, which came with a thickness of 5.1 mm, and it is the thinnest device produced by the company to date.
Estimates for the thickness of the iPhone 17 Air range between 5 mm and 6 mm. Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman expects it to be about 2 mm thinner than the iPhone 16 Pro, which is 8.25 mm thick, which means it will come in about 6.25 mm thick.
