The American president announced that he will meet his Ukrainian counterpart on Monday..

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he will meet his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky in Washington next Monday to discuss ways to end the war with Russia, praising the outcomes of the Alaska summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Trump wrote on his platform (Truth Social): "It was a great and highly successful day in Alaska, where the meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin went very well, as did the late-night phone call I had with Ukrainian President Zelensky and several European leaders, including the NATO Secretary-General."

He clarified that everyone agreed the best way to end the horrific war between Russia and Ukraine is to move directly toward a peace agreement that ends the war—"not just a ceasefire agreement that often doesn’t hold."

The U.S. president noted that he informed European leaders of his desire to arrange a trilateral summit bringing together Presidents Zelensky and Putin by next Friday, adding that he would begin preparing for the meeting if Monday’s Oval Office talks with Zelensky go well.

Trump had said in televised remarks on Friday that the responsibility now falls on the Ukrainian president to build on the results of the Alaska summit and reach an agreement to end the three-year-long war with Russia.
