The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Al-Budaiwi, expressed on Saturday his strongest condemnation of the targeting of a humanitarian convoy near the city of Melit in North Darfur, Sudan.
In a statement, Al-Budaiwi emphasized the necessity of sparing civilians and humanitarian personnel the scourges of conflict and adhering strictly to international and humanitarian laws that prohibit targeting aid and relief supplies. He stressed the importance of respecting the inviolability of humanitarian and relief work and ensuring the unimpeded and safe delivery of assistance to those in need.
Al-Budaiwi clarified that targeting humanitarian convoys constitutes a blatant violation of all international laws and norms and undermines efforts to achieve security and stability in Darfur and throughout Sudan.
