Yemen.. The directorate of (Al-Buraiqeh) in (Aden) declared a disaster area due to floods..

On Saturday evening, the local authority in the Al-Buraiqeh district of Yemen's temporary capital, Aden, declared the district a disaster area due to the devastating floods that have caused casualties and widespread damage to property, homes, and infrastructure since dawn on Saturday.

In a statement, the local authority said that floods coming from Lahj governorate towards the Al-Haswa coastal area led to the destruction of dozens of homes and partial damage to hundreds more, in addition to trapping hundreds of families, completely submerging houses, and cutting off the main road leading to the district.

The statement added that the floods swept away public and private property, including cars and transport buses, and caused severe damage to infrastructure. They also resulted in casualties and injuries due to collapses and drowning, while rainwater mixed with sewage in some neighborhoods.

It indicated that the situation is catastrophic, out of control, and worsening with the continued flow of floods from various governorates, which gather and converge in the Al-Buraiqeh district before flowing into the Gulf of Aden.

The statement appealed to United Nations organizations, humanitarian and governmental agencies, and donors to urgently intervene by providing emergency shelter, shelter kits, essential food supplies, logistical support for rescue and evacuation teams, as well as machinery and suction pumps to drain stagnant water.

For days, most Yemeni governorates have been experiencing heavy rains and torrential floods, whose intensity increased on Saturday due to a low-pressure system. This has resulted in dozens of casualties and missing persons, though no official statistics are available yet. Numerous roads have been cut off, vehicles swept away, and dozens of homes destroyed.
