Liverpool secured three valuable points from St. James' Park after defeating hosts Newcastle United 3-2 in the final match of the second round of the English Premier League held on Monday.
Liverpool opened the scoring in the 35th minute through Dutch midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, before French striker Hugo Ekitike doubled the lead just one minute into the second half.
However, the home team managed to reduce the deficit and then equalize through Portuguese Bruno Guimarães, who scored in the 57th minute, and Danish William Osula, who netted the equalizer two minutes before the end of regular time.
Just as the match seemed headed for a draw, Liverpool surprised Newcastle's defense with a swift counterattack, finished by 16-year-old Englishman Rio Adegan with a precise shot into the far corner of the net in the 10th minute of stoppage time.
With this win, Liverpool now sits in third place with six points, trailing only leaders Arsenal and second-placed Tottenham Hotspur on goal difference, while Newcastle occupies 15th place with just one point.
