Huawei has unveiled an ambitious roadmap for its Ascend series AI chips, which aims to bridge the technical gap with Nvidia and compete for its dominance of the global market over the next three years.

The company explained that its strategy is not limited to improving the processing capabilities of a single chip, but also extends to the development of a new connectivity protocol known as UnifiedBus, which can connect around 15,500 chips in a single system, 62 times faster than NVLink144 from NVIDIA.

This is expected to give Huawei a significant advantage in building supercomputers to train AI models, as accelerating data transfer between chips is as important as processing power itself.
