Touch Rip The first Emirati device to check fruit ripeness with artificial intelligence..

In a move that confirms its leadership in transforming academic research into commercial solutions with tangible impact, Khalifa University of Science and Technology (KAUST) has launched TouchRipe, the UAE's first mobile device designed to instantly verify fruit ripeness with artificial intelligence.

This achievement came as part of the university's presentation during its dual participation in GITEX Global 2025 and Expand North Star 2025. The Touch Ripe is a quantum leap in food supply chains, as it was developed to operate without the need for an internet connection, using a haptic sensor powered by built-in artificial intelligence that mimics the human sense of touch.The innovation, which Khalifa University has filed for a US patent, embodies the UAE's vision towards a knowledge-based economy and sustainable innovation.

is the result of the efforts of Khalifa University researchers, and is characterized by its practical field design, advanced technologies, and multiple advantages, including:

Offline Fieldwork: The device weighs only 135 grams and works without the need for an internet connection, making it ideal for use in fields and farms.

Technology and Speed: The device attaches to the thumb and attaches to the wrist, and uses a haptic sensor based on vision and built-in AI to estimate fruit firmness in less than 30 seconds.

Proactive and Quality: The device allows farmers, inspectors and agricultural companies to assess fruit ripeness without damaging it, which directly contributes to reducing food waste, enhancing harvest time estimation, and controlling quality controls across the entire supply chain.

Prof. Bayan Sharif, Chief Academic Officer at Khalifa University, said that the launch of Touch Wrap embodies the university's pivotal role in transforming research into a tangible impact in the real world, reinforcing the country's leadership in innovation and sustainability.
