OpenAI Begins Rolling Out Group Chats to ChatGPT Users Globally..

OpenAI began piloting the group chats feature for ChatGPT users last week. The feature was available via the web and mobile app for users enrolled on the Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans, but only in four countries: Japan, Taiwan, New Zealand, and South Korea. After receiving positive feedback about the experience, the company announced the start of bringing group chats globally to all users.

"The early experience came positive, so we're expanding the group chats to all users enrolled on ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus, and Pro plans globally over the coming days, while continuing to improve the experience as more users start using it," OpenAI said in a statement on its blog.

The feature allows up to 20 people to be invited within a single conversation, while in-group responses are based on ChatGPT 5.1 Auto, which automatically selects the best response form based on the type of request and what's available to the user.

In addition, Rate Limits only apply to ChatGPT's own responses, while participants can speak freely without restriction among themselves.
