A shocking warning from within Anthropic: The danger of eliminating humans due to artificial intelligence..

Anthropic's head of AI matching research, Evan Hubinger, warned that there is a greater than 10% chance that artificial intelligence could wipe out all of humanity, just hours after another employee resigned from the company, stating that AI labs are putting human lives at risk.

These comments highlight growing concerns among those working in AI development about the potential for this technology to spiral out of control and threaten humanity, even as Anthropic and OpenAI continue to raise substantial funds and move toward a potential initial public offering, according to CNBC.

Jacob Cookson, a researcher at Anthropic, announced his resignation from the company on Tuesday, stating that Anthropic and OpenAI were not acting responsibly.

In a post on the X platform, Cookson said, "They are racing headlong toward developing a self-improving super-intelligence, putting our lives at risk."

Self-improvement refers to the ability of AI systems to develop themselves with minimal human intervention. While iterative self-improvement—as it is often called—is not yet possible, AI labs are working hard to achieve it.

Cookson warned against underestimating the power of this technology, saying that AI systems will soon surpass human capabilities, be able to hack into anything, revolutionize any field overnight, and acquire real power and resources. He added that the pace of progress in these areas is not slowing down. He

also noted that those developing AI seriously believe it could wipe us all out by the end of the decade.
