The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, Sheikh Dr. Salman Khalifa Al-Sabah, honored Professor Musa Khurshid, Professor of Surgery, Obesity and Endoscopic Surgery, on the occasion of his receiving the Pioneer Award from the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Metabolic Disorders (IFSO) in recognition of his scientific and professional contributions and pioneering achievements. The Ministry of Health stated in a press release on Wednesday that Dr. Salman Al-Sabah affirmed that the achievements of Kuwaiti medical professionals in international forums are a source of pride and reflect the richness of the health and academic system in the State of Kuwait. The ministry added that Professor Khurshid received the award during the World Congress of the Federation held in Toronto, Canada, where he was honored along with four surgical scientists from the United States of America in recognition of his career and contributions to the development of obesity and metabolic surgeries. She explained that this honor adds to a record full of international achievements, as he received the honorary fellowship from the American College of Surgeons (ACS) in 2021 and the honorary fellowship from the American Surgical Society (ASA) in 2024, confirming the scientific status reached by Kuwaiti medical competencies and their influential contributions to the development of surgical practice at the international level. The ministry quoted Professor Khurshid in its statement as expressing his pride in this honor, which represents an incentive to continue giving and raising the country’s name in medical forums, appreciating the ministry’s support for national competencies and its continuous encouragement of scientific and professional excellence.
