Amazon has announced that it will remove the USB download and transfer feature from its website starting February 26, 2025, which will prevent users from uploading purchased books to computers, and manually transferring them to Kindle e-readers.
Most users rely on sending books wirelessly over Wi-Fi, but this feature has been useful for saving backup copies of books, or converting them to other formats compatible with non-Amazon e-readers.
This feature provided a solution for users who do not have a Wi-Fi connection, and gave them the convenience of keeping offline copies of their books.
The need for backups has arisen previously, as Amazon has already deleted some books from its store and Kindle devices, and has introduced versions of some books in linguistically modified versions.
