Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Dr. Badr Abdel Atty, stressed the necessity of adopting a comprehensive political process in Syria that includes all components of the population without excluding any party, in order to restore its stability. The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration stated in a press release on Monday that this came during a meeting held by Abdel Atty with Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein, during which the two sides exchanged views on the most prominent regional issues.
The statement added that Abdel Atty emphasized Egypt's supportive stance toward the Syrian state, respecting its sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. He also stressed the need to combat terrorism and extremism and for Syria to become a source of stability in the region.
Abdel Atty reviewed the ongoing preparations for the Arab Summit hosted by Cairo tomorrow regarding the situation in the Gaza Strip, Egypt's efforts to ensure the sustainability of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, and the plan being developed for reconstruction. He also highlighted the necessity of working toward a permanent and just political solution to the Palestinian issue.
Regarding bilateral relations, the Egyptian Foreign Minister affirmed his country's supportive stance for Iraq's security and stability, praising the notable development in Egyptian-Iraqi relations over the past few years. He commended the joint efforts to deepen bilateral cooperation and advance joint projects linking Egypt, Iraq, and Jordan within the framework of the trilateral cooperation mechanism.
