The dismissal of the coaching staff of the Iraqi national football team..

The Iraqi News Agency quoted association member Ahmed Al-Mousawi as saying that the federation decided during its meeting on Thursday to terminate Casas' contract in accordance with Article 8 of the agreement between the two parties.

Al-Mousawi added that the federation had formed a committee to settle financial and legal matters with the dismissed coach, headed by federation president Adnan Dirjal. He noted that the name of the new coach who will take over the technical leadership of the national team will be announced in the coming days.

The decision to dismiss Casas comes against the backdrop of the Iraqi national team's results in the third round of Asian qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup finals, most recently their 2-1 defeat to the Palestinian team in Amman. This has significantly reduced Iraq's chances of direct qualification for the World Cup.

The Iraqi national team currently sits in third place in Group C with 12 points, earned from three wins and three draws against two losses. They trail group leaders South Korea (16 points) and second-placed Jordan (13 points).
