Dr. Sobih Al-Mukhaizeem, Minister of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy, emphasized on Tuesday the continued development and upskilling of human resources to address potential challenges in Kuwait’s electrical and water networks. This initiative aims to achieve the highest levels of operational quality, efficiency, and service sustainability.
The minister’s remarks came in an official statement released by the ministry following his inspection tour of the Al-Subiya Power Generation and Water Desalination Plant, where he greeted shift workers on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr. He was accompanied by Deputy Minister Dr. Adel Al-Zamel and Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Power Generation and Desalination Plants, Mohammad Khazal.
In the statement, Minister Al-Mukhaizeem expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the dedication of all ministry employees, particularly during official holidays, commending their efforts in delivering efficient and professional services to Kuwaiti citizens and residents.
Reviewing Summer 2025 Preparedness
The minister began his tour by visiting the Electrical Control Room (ECR) to assess workflow, operational procedures, and the plant’s readiness to meet the anticipated surge in electricity and water demand during the summer of 2025.
Acting Plant Manager Talal Al-Shammari provided a detailed briefing on the facility’s electrical control system. With an installed capacity of 7,100 megawatts—representing approximately 35% of Kuwait’s total power output—the plant also produces 100 million imperial gallons of desalinated water per day.
The inspection included visits to the steam turbine hall, Thermal Control Room (TCR), and desalination unit control rooms. Minister Al-Mukhaizeem also reviewed ongoing modernization efforts for one of the plant’s steam turbines.
