The International Islamic Charitable Organization (IICO) has inaugurated its second shelter camp in northern Gaza Strip as part of its efforts to support the Palestinian people and alleviate the suffering of those displaced by the ongoing aggression against the territory.
In a press statement issued Thursday, the IICO stated that the camp serves as temporary shelter for 200 displaced families who have completely lost their homes under extremely harsh humanitarian conditions. The establishment and equipping of the camp cost over $163,000, funded by charitable donors in Kuwait.
The camp features:
200 tents across an 8,000-square-meter area
Capacity to accommodate approximately 1,200 individuals from affected families
Beneficiaries who were forced to take refuge in streets, hospitals, schools, and public playgrounds after near-total destruction of their homes
Key Facilities Include:
✔ Central mosque and kitchen
✔ Gender-segregated sanitation facilities
✔ Complete sewage system
✔ Water well with pump and 5,000-liter storage tanks
✔ Solar-powered lighting and generator
✔ Perimeter fencing for security
The project responds to the urgent need for alternative shelter, particularly after:
85% destruction of residential buildings in northern Gaza
Growing risks of disease outbreaks and psychological trauma
Critical shortages of food security, healthcare, and clean water
The IICO emphasized its commitment through this project to:
✓ Ensure minimum dignified living standards for displaced persons
✓ Reduce pressure on public facilities
✓ Create an environment respecting family privacy
✓ Address special needs of children, women, and elderly
