The Permanent Representative of the State of Kuwait to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Nasser Al-Hain, renewed on Wednesday Kuwait’s steadfast commitment to international conventions and its active role in supporting humanitarian causes.
This came in a statement made by Ambassador Al-Hain to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) on the occasion of the anniversary of Kuwait’s accession to the United Nations on May 14, 1963—a "historic milestone" in its diplomatic and humanitarian journey.
He affirmed Kuwait’s continuation of its unwavering humanitarian approach, grounded in human values and international legitimacy, and its keenness to engage in constructive cooperation with UN organizations to achieve security, stability, and alleviate the suffering of affected people worldwide.
He also emphasized Kuwait’s commitment, through its current membership in the Human Rights Council, to positive and constructive cooperation with various international bodies and organizations to enhance the protection of human rights and uphold the country’s steadfast approach in supporting multilateral international efforts.
In this context, he highlighted Kuwait’s adherence to its principled and steadfast positions on just humanitarian causes, particularly in Palestine, Syria, and Sudan, and its commitment to the principles of international humanitarian law, the protection of human rights, and the promotion of justice and dignity in conflict zones.
Regarding the Palestinian issue, Ambassador Al-Hain reiterated that the Palestinian cause remains "at the forefront of Kuwaiti foreign policy priorities."
He pointed to Kuwait’s "repeated" calls to the international community to uphold its moral and legal responsibilities toward the Palestinian people, implement an immediate ceasefire, and ensure the unimpeded flow of aid.
He stressed Kuwait’s consistent commitment to playing an effective role in ensuring accountability for violators of international law, foremost among them the occupying power in the Palestinian territories.
He also emphasized his country’s rejection of the double standards witnessed globally concerning this issue, affirming the necessity of establishing an independent Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the Arab Peace Initiative.
