Yemeni Leadership Council Chairman: The Southern Issue is the Core of Any Just Settlement..

Chairman of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad al-Alimi, said on Wednesday that the commemoration of the anniversary of Yemeni unity and the establishment of the Republic of Yemen represents a renewed recognition of mistakes and a firm commitment to correcting the course. This came in a speech broadcast by the state-run Yemen Satellite Channel on the eve of the 35th anniversary of the unification and establishment of the Republic of Yemen from the merger of the northern and southern parts on May 22, 1990.Al-Alimi said the southern issue represents the core of any just political settlement, and its resolution must be achieved with complete fairness and sufficient guarantees that enable the people of the south to shape their future and determine their political, economic, and cultural status, thus reinforcing the principle of partnership in power and wealth in accordance with national, regional, and international frameworks. He expressed his full understanding of the changing popular mood under the pressure of past injustices, exclusion, marginalization and excessive centralization. He pointed out that southern Yemen represents a beacon of enlightenment, a cradle of the civil state and its solid shield, and a stable and safe haven for millions of people displaced from the hell of the Houthi militia in Aden and other southern governorates, noting that Aden is consolidating its position as a launching pad for defeating the new Imamate project and its supporters and defending the republican system and its eternal goals. He explained that the bitter experiences Yemen has gone through have proven that building a modern Yemen can only be achieved by meeting three main conditions: protecting the republican system, consolidating pluralism, and building an equal unity based on justice and equality, not on domination and exclusion. He stressed that the government had taken serious steps to correct the situation, starting with strengthening the independence of the authorities, activating law enforcement agencies, addressing some of the effects of the 1994 summer war, and expanding financial and administrative decentralization in accordance with the constitution and the terms of reference for the transitional period. He observed that the Houthi militia is increasing its presence in the name of unity and sovereignty, while closing roads, besieging cities, draining the national currency, reproducing discrimination and class differences, imposing a reality of separation through force, looting, and extortion, and with its reckless adventures, it is inviting foreign intervention and exporting chaos. He stressed the continuation of the fateful battle "to eradicate the root cause of the problem represented by the Houthi Imami project as an existential threat to our republican system, the security of our country, its social fabric, its Arab and cultural identity, and its regional and international interests."
