(Domestic News): Authorities thwart attempt to smuggle 47 kilograms of narcotic marijuana into the country via air cargo..

The Ministry of Interior announced on Tuesday the foiling of an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of narcotic marijuana, estimated at 47 kilograms, into the country via air cargo. Two suspects were involved in the smuggling operation.

In a press statement, the Ministry stated that this operation falls within the framework of joint security efforts to combat drug smuggling into the country, highlighting the cooperation and coordination between the Criminal Security Sector—represented by the General Department for Drug Control (GDCD) and the General Department of Customs.

The Ministry explained that the incident unfolded during meticulous inspection procedures conducted by customs authorities as part of their efforts to combat drug trafficking. Customs officers at the air cargo terminal seized a shipment of narcotic marijuana arriving from a foreign country. Upon discovery, authorities immediately coordinated with the GDCD to take necessary legal measures.

A specialized team from the GDCD was dispatched to the cargo company’s premises to complete investigation and seizure procedures. The first suspect was apprehended while completing the shipment receipt process. The second suspect, who had sent the first to receive the shipment, was arrested in the Al Jahra Industrial Area after violently resisting arrest—endangering lives by ramming into security patrols. Security forces successfully subdued him, and investigations later revealed his prior involvement in drug trafficking cases.

The Ministry confirmed that both suspects have been referred to the GDCD to complete legal procedures before being handed over to the Narcotics Prosecution, which holds jurisdiction in such cases.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying efforts to combat the scourge of drugs and enhancing cooperation with relevant authorities to protect society from these toxins. It also warned of strict legal action against anyone who threatens the nation’s security.
