The U.S. Department of State condemned the Houthi "terrorist attack" on two commercial vessels in the Red Sea. In a press statement issued Tuesday evening, the State Department said:
"The United States condemns the Houthis' unjustified terrorist attack on civilian cargo ships MV Magic Seas and MV Eternity Sea in the Red Sea, which tragically killed three sailors, injured others, and resulted in the total loss of MV Magic Seas and its entire cargo."
The statement added:
"These attacks demonstrate the persistent threat posed by Iranian-backed Houthi rebels to freedom of navigation and regional maritime and economic security."
It emphasized:
"The United States will continue to take necessary measures to protect freedom of navigation and commercial shipping from Houthi terrorist attacks, which all members of the international community must condemn."
Additional Context:
The Yemeni government also strongly condemned the Houthi militia's terrorist attacks against commercial ships and waterways in the Red Sea yesterday, describing them as a "serious threat" to maritime security.
