U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi stressed on Wednesday the importance of maintaining the ceasefire in Syria.

U.S. State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce said in a press statement that Secretary Rubio met with Safadi to discuss the trilateral agreement between the United States, Jordan, and Syria to uphold the ceasefire in Syria.

Bruce added that during the meeting, Rubio emphasized the need for dialogue to address the current crisis in southern Syria and the importance of protecting civilians by all parties.

She noted that the two sides discussed the security situation in the region, including Gaza and the West Bank, adding that the U.S. Secretary of State thanked Safadi for Jordan’s leading role in promoting regional security and stability.
