It appears that video game console sales are experiencing a noticeable decline. According to Mat Piscatella, an analyst at Circana, console sales in December 2024 dropped by 29%, with total spending reaching approximately $1.1 billion.

For individual video game console sales, PS5 sales decreased by 18% compared to December 2023, while both Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch saw a 38% decline. For comparison, hardware spending in December 2023 was around $4.9 billion.

Piscatella noted that this decline in console sales was not surprising, given that all currently available consoles have been on the market for a long time and have surpassed their peak sales periods. He also mentioned that console sales throughout 2024 were generally higher compared to previous years.
