A German opinion poll released on Sunday revealed that a majority of citizens support their government's recognition of a Palestinian state.
According to the survey conducted by the renowned German research institute Forsa, 54% of respondents expressed support for the move, while 31% opposed it.
The study highlighted particularly strong support among younger demographics, with 60% of respondents aged 18-29 in favor. Among those over 60, support remained high at 58%.
The poll also examined party affiliations:
85% of Left Party supporters endorsed recognition
66% of Green Party voters were in favor
52% of Social Democratic Party (SPD) supporters backed the move
Only 48% of Christian Democratic Union (CDU) adherents supported recognition
Pressure has been mounting on the German government regarding its stance toward Israel's occupation government, especially after Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced two days ago that Germany would partially suspend arms exports to Israel.
The German government has been among Europe's most staunch supporters of Israel's occupation government.
