Justice Minister Counselor Nasser Al-Sumait affirmed on Sunday that the new Advocacy Law, currently being prepared in cooperation with the Kuwaiti Lawyers Association, will bring about a qualitative and distinctive shift in regulating the legal profession and providing guarantees to ensure its optimal practice.
During an open meeting with lawyers at the Kuwaiti Lawyers Association, Counselor Al-Sumait explained that one of the most prominent features of the new law is "protecting lawyers from imprisonment in court-related offenses, as judges will have the right to submit an official report, and the case will be referred to investigation committees without detaining the lawyer for 24 hours."
He added that lawyers' contracts and fees will be taken into consideration, with regulatory solutions and a precise system established under the new law. He noted that ongoing cooperation with the Kuwaiti Lawyers Association aims to achieve the best outcomes in this regard.
He stated that both the Advocacy Law and the Judiciary Regulation Law would represent a qualitative leap once approved, emphasizing that the issue of appealing discrimination rulings is currently under discussion with the Kuwaiti Lawyers Association, and a mutually agreeable formulation will be reached.
