The Syrian government welcomed on Monday the recent decision by the U.S. Department of the Treasury to remove Syria from the sanctions lists outlined in the Federal Register, following the executive orders issued by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the lifting of sanctions.
In a statement carried by the Syrian News Agency (SANA), the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs described this step as a positive development in the right direction, which will directly reflect on the humanitarian and economic conditions of the Syrian people.
The ministry added that this development will contribute to facilitating trade and financial movements, lifting restrictions on U.S. exports to Syria, alleviating the suffering of citizens, and opening new horizons for economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.
It reaffirmed its commitment to continuing dialogue and cooperation with all international partners, based on the principles of sovereignty and mutual respect, in a manner that serves the stability and prosperity of the Syrian people and the peoples of the region.
