U.S. Envoy Witkoff: President Trump to Chair Expanded Meeting on Gaza Wednesday
The U.S. Presidential Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, stated that President Donald Trump will chair an expanded meeting on Gaza this Wednesday.
In remarks reported by the American network Fox News on Tuesday evening, Witkoff said, "We have an expanded meeting at the White House, chaired by President (Trump), regarding the war in Gaza. It is a very comprehensive plan we are preparing for the day after."
When asked what makes him optimistic about reaching an agreement between the Israeli occupation and the Palestinian movement (Hamas) regarding prisoners and a ceasefire, Witkoff replied, "We believe we will resolve this matter one way or another, and certainly before the end of this year."
He added that "Hamas indicates it is open to a settlement," noting the Israeli occupation's announcement allowing approximately $600 million in aid to enter Gaza and its willingness to continue negotiations if Hamas responds.
The American envoy stated that President Trump announced last Monday that he expects the Israeli occupation's war on Gaza to end within "two or three weeks," amid the spread of an unprecedented famine caused by the siege on the Palestinian sector.
Witkoff had announced last July the withdrawal of the American delegation from the ceasefire talks in Gaza, which were being held in Qatar.
