OpenAI and Anthropic have announced new, lower-cost AI models, their first release since industry leaders called for a slowdown in the development of advanced AI technologies.

This move comes amid continued fierce competition in the open model and low-cost services market, particularly from Chinese companies like Alibaba, Moonshot AI, and DeepSeek.

OpenAI has launched new tiers in the GPT-6 family, including GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna, with API prices reduced by 50% compared to the promotional prices of GPT-5.6.

Sol targets complex programming tasks, while Luna focuses on handling large-scale tasks such as data mining and document summarization. Astra remains the most advanced option in the family.

Meanwhile, Anthropic unveiled Cloud Opus 5.5, the latest addition to the Cloud 5.5 series. The company stated that the new model boasts significantly improved token efficiency, reducing operating costs by approximately 40% compared to the previous version, Cloud Opus 5.
